Service Description

Your midwife and NCT classnhave probably already told you about the "stages" of labour. Stage 1. Stage 2. Stage 3. That framework is designed to guide clinical care and is based on what's happening to your cervix. Unless your birth partner plans on checking your cervix themselves (please don't), that information doesn't actually tell them what they need to know. Because birth doesn't unfold in neat little chapters. It unfolds through your behaviour. The way you breathe. The way you move. The sounds you make. The moments you go quiet. The times you suddenly can't answer questions. The point where you stop wanting to be touched... or need constant reassurance. To someone who's only seen birth on TV your birth unfolding can look totally different to what they expected and that can be scary. The problem isn't usually the labour. The problem is that birth partners are rarely prepared for what birth actually looks, sounds and feels like. That's why they're often the first person to suggest heading to hospital too early. The first to encourage pain relief you didn't actually want or need. The first to panic because they think something is wrong, when your body is simply doing what it was designed to do. And those decisions can change the course of your birth, increasing the chances of interventions you never planned for. This 2-hour Birth Partners guide to the unfolding of birth changes that. Whether you join as a couple or in a group, we'll walk through labour exactly as it unfolds in real life, not by centimetres of dilation, but by what your birth partner will actually see in front of them. They'll learn how to recognise what's normal, what your behaviour is telling them, when hormones are shifting, how to protect your birth space, and how to support you through every phase from the very first signs of labour right through to after your placenta is born. They'll understand: - What you might need at different points in labour. - What your movements, sounds and behaviour could be communicating. - When it's time to call the midwife or head to your birth place. - How to stay calm when birth becomes loud, primal and intense. - How to help labour keep flowing instead of accidentally disrupting it. - The most common points where birth starts to drift away from your ideal plan and what you can both do to help get things back on track. Book 1:1 or as a group that you arrange
